Allen Bruce

Allen is a true pioneer in financial services, having entered the industry in 1969. Over the years, he has witnessed the impact of a well-designed plan on the lives of families and businesses. “I have settled countless death claims and delivered many checks that have blessed families and sustained businesses,” he says. “We have an opportunity – and an obligation – to not only generate income for ourselves, but also to serve.”

His service, expertise and time extends beyond his many hundreds of clients. Allen describes his approach as “a very deep commitment to educating the African American community in the areas of financial planning and finance.” He has been a guest lecturer at the Howard University School of Finance, and takes advantage of every opportunity to speak at dozens of churches, schools and civic organizations.

Allen is a role model and family man, having been married to his wife Julia for 49 years. They have two children and three grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, Allen enjoys listening to jazz and gospel music. He’s also an avid tennis player, although he admits his time on the court is not as frequent as it used to be.

Regarding his long and successful partnership with Ohio National, Allen says that “Ohio National has always honored its word with me.” This business relationship and trust goes back to the mid-1990s when Ohio National invested in helping Bruce and four other African American financial professionals get their agencies off the ground.

“Other carriers talked about doing business with us, but they never took any action,” says Allen. “However, Ohio National did. These kinds of actions, coupled with the fact that Barbara Turner is in the role she’s in, combined with the Next Markets initiative, says a lot about who Ohio National is.”
